How Austin Awake began
Austin Awake began with a conversation between Barbara Bucklin of Luke 4:18 Ministries, David Smith of Austin Baptist Association, and Vicky Porterfield of Prayerfields — together with author and teacher Dean Briggs, of Ekklesia Rising — about the city of Austin. That conversation led to the first Austin Awake Prayer Strike, November 1–10, 2023.
Dean Briggs came from Kansas City and Marc Brisebois from Canada to join local ministry leaders in Austin for ten days of prayer, praise, worship, and dreams over the city — no hype, no celebrities, no long teachings, just prayer. A twenty-person Discernment Team formed to lead the evening gatherings, sought the Lord daily for direction, and interpreted the dreams shared by attendees. That team has kept meeting and building unity ever since.
